Polyurethane rubber is known for several positive and several negative features:


Positives: Uniquely high tensile strength, uniquely high abrasion resistance, relatively good heat and isotopic resistance, not very high residual deformation.


Negative: There is poor moisture and water resistance. Lubrication is required. On ignition they release quite large amounts of hydrogen cyanide (HCN), a cyanalkali gas analogue, not suitable for dynamic loads, difficult to process.
